Project Overview
Electrical installation for new theatre extension in the Bon Secours, Tralee.
More Details
David Doyle Electrical completed the electrical works of the Bons Theatre Extension in a live hospital environment, paying particular attention to controlling noise and dust. The new installation included distribution, UPS, IPS, medical trunking, emergency lighting, LED IP65 main theatre lighting, data, emergency call, & fire alarm.
- David Doyle Electrical installed a new supply from the MV switch room, over 300m from the main plant room. They also installed 4x240sq SWA Cables to support the extension.
- They set up a Form 4 Main Distribution Panel to handle all power needs for the extension.
- As part of the electrical contract for the Bons Theatre Extension, they supplied and installed a UPS system. This system ensures power for essential equipment in Theatre 1, Theatre 2, Endo 1, Endo 2, and Endo Recovery. They also upgraded the existing theatre system.
UPS System
- David Doyle Electrical provided two 20KVA UPS systems to support the IPS systems. The UPS battery supports the load for 60 minutes.
- They installed both the UPS and the battery in the plant room.
- The team installed a static bypass and output control module for full-system rating.
- They provided a battery bank with isolators to ensure autonomy above full rating. They included a maintenance bypass facility.
- The system allows for remote monitoring of the UPS status through IP.
- The UPS features an LCD panel with a mimic graphical display.
- The UPS consists of plug-in modular power boards.
- It uses Tricore Technology and digital signal processing.
- Isolated gate bipolar transistors are used on the input and output of the UPS.
- The inverter output uses vector technology for multiple current loops.
- The system includes dynamic charging mode for accurate battery management.
- There is provision for paralleling the UPS for N+1 configuration or future expansion.
- The UPS has an Eco Mode facility with efficiency greater than 98% and a transfer time of less than 5 minutes.
Single Isolated Power System (SIPS)
- Davis Doyle Electrical supplied and installed two IPS systems in the theatre extension. These systems power essential equipment in Theatre 1, Theatre 2, Endo 1, Endo 2, and Endo Recovery. They will power the existing Theatre IPS system, including the remote alarm panel.
- Each SIPS includes a steel enclosure and an integrated insulation monitor with an automatic earth fault detection system (EDS). It features a web server TCP/IP functionality, requiring a standard network connection.
- The system uses a low inrush (≤8ln) medical isolation transformer with an 8.0kVA capacity.
- It also includes a 125A main isolator and 16 20A “B type” DP miniature circuit breakers (MCB).
- The setup has a load current transformer and an equipotential earth bar.
- Terminals for remote alarm and field wiring are included. For ventilation, it has a thermostatically controlled fan and a ventilation filter.
